Here Comes the Neighborhood Review

Here Comes the Neighborhood is a 2017 short film written and directed by Michael Charron.

An absorbing short film that is sure to teach some clever strategies to prevent tourists from ruining your best-kept secrets, Here Comes the Neighborhood is as smart as it is funny.

Starting the short film off, there is definitely a small barrier of entry to what will unfold. It is a smart subversion in that by the end we have a neatly wrapped present, but earlier scenes may almost have you questioning everything going on.

It is almost as if the film is too clever for its own good, but this is not a complaint. To sum up the short would be to ruin the ending, but all the pieces come together. There is no reason to doubt that, even if you might for a moment.

All the characters in the short have distinct personalities to call their own. The two best standouts here being Craig and Charlie as portrayed by Chris Cubas and Richard Ricks, respectively. There is a lot to enjoy about these exaggerated comedic turns and everyone is clearing having a good time here.

The only technical issue the film has is the utilization of the night cinematography, which while not terrible does have some high ISO grain going on throughout most of the runtime. While this doesn’t detract from the solid performances, it is something that is noticeable.

The audio presentation though is top notch, with a stand out score by TW Bond who always seems to shine in his work.

Serial

Overall, this is a fun and clever little film that has a great ending, neatly bringing it all to a close. It is one of those great short films that knows the message it wants to get across and the time limitations that it has to do it. It is a perfect little package that has a lot of laughter to be had throughout.
