El Bano 5 Review
El Bano 5 is a 2021 short film from Studi Yo Bless.
A micro short film that never takes itself too seriously, El Bano 5 certainly isn’t breaking any new ground, but it is at least having a bit of silly fun.
A talking disembodied head in a jar is never something anyone will ever really take too seriously. Just take Futurama for example, and luckily in this short horror film it doesn’t try to bring much credence here either.
If you haven’t already guessed from the title of the film, this is part 5 in a series of shower room related horror films from Studi Yo Bless, with each one bringing different elements to the table.
This feels like what you would binge watch through on Halloween night with a few friends. It is lighthearted but carries that spooky moniker with pride.
The acting in the film is solid, with straight faces despite all the silliness surrounding it.
From a technical standpoint the color correction in some of the scenes does seem to jump around a bit, with some shots hovering warmer, while others push cooler. The decision to have the piece set in the daytime too while interesting, doesn’t conjure too much in the way of Halloween, outside of the décor and bathing suit of the lead.
For anyone wanting to start getting into the creepy vibes this summer though it is perfectly suited.
Overall, El Bano 5 lands in a middle ground of everything being suitable. It is not groundbreaking but not bad either. It is a nice little bite sized meal for horror fans, but works better when watching all the pieces in one sitting for something a little more substantial.
