A Good Home Review
A Good Home is a 2021 short film directed by Noah Camenker.
An interesting story that definitely captures the spirit of classic The Twilight Zone episodes we all know and love, A Good Home delivers its points quickly and efficiently.
In the usual mode of trying to get any negative thoughts out first, the one thing that could be leveraged against this short film is at times the way in which the acting can ramp up to an almost melodramatic fervor. While the subtlety is not played for by design, there is still a sense of overacting when things do ramp up.
That out the way though the design of the short is handled well here and is shown in a short film that doesn’t overstay its welcome, but even with that in mind there is an even more streamlined version of the story that can be told. Somewhere here there exists a 3–5-minute cut that would get to the strong ending more quickly.
The look of the piece is great though, with the cinematography and use of anamorphic lenses an inspired choice. The visuals really keep things motivated and with bold cinematography we warm up to this single location very quickly.
This is one to watch for the ending alone, which, while not be surprising to those who love any of those great serialized science fiction shows of yesteryear this will be very welcome.
While not a perfect package, there are still enough reasons here to check out A Good Home without a doubt. People in their very nature are strange beasts, but when you take away any true freedoms, how would you react?
