The Perfect One Film Spotlight

Today’s film spotlight focuses on the short film The Perfect One directed by Boldizsar CR.

What is the title of your film and what inspired said title?

The Perfect One is referring to perfectionism and the pressure around this topic. Usually a symptom of other insecurities, perfectionism is a very dangerous phenomenon. The title is meant to be ironic, and I tried to play around this subject among other subjects and, of course, envy.

Tell us a little bit about the story and origins of your film.

This film was a part of a series of films I directed for Premier Model Management. The purpose for these films was to showcase new faces models of the agency and I was collaborating with Paul Rowland, who acted as Creative Director in these films.

Any films or filmmakers that inspired this film?

There were no obvious film references, but perhaps there is a bit of Kids (Larry Clark) and elements of “Giallo” cinema. I would also mention Abel Ferrara’s Ms. 45. As I remember, I tried to have that intensity of the street scenes.

What is the goal of the film for you?

It was a job for me, although a very amazing one and I am super happy with the result. A direct goal was to publish it through a Fashion Magazine and I also knew it will be great for Film Festivals.

What has the journey been like getting the film into production?

It was a third film in a series of film shoots backed by the model agency. I spent a lot of time location scouting as the locations needed to be quite close to the agency. We shot this in two days, as it is always tricky to find the right date when models are in London and available for this kind of editorial work.

One thing you learned from this project?

Sure, I always learn from every shoot. I think in retrospect I would try to have more than one assistant for a shoot like this. Obviously, these are budget concerns.

Any last pieces of advice for fellow filmmakers?

I think what is important is to keep searching and expressing your own personal and unique voice through film. At the same time, skills and practice is important too. Learn the rules to break them. I also think watching many films and being aware of history of cinema is important too. Usually if I like a film, I check the director’s other work as well and keep checking out more and more stuff.
