1230 Hopewell Road Film Spotlight

Today’s film spotlight focuses on the short film 1230 Hopewell Road directed by Rob Gabe.

What is the title of your film and what inspired said title?

1230 Hopewell Road. The title refers to the address of the main protagonist, Wally.

Tell us a little bit about the story and origins of your film.

1230 Hopewell Road Centers Two investigate journalist who set out to make a documentary on a local urban legend and a troubled boyfriend at the deadly center of it all. 1230 HOPEWELL ROAD is very much inspired by kink/fetish industrial subcultures, film such as Shinya Tsukamoto’s Tetsuo The Iron Man (1988), analogue aesthetics, and Urban Legends I grew up with as a teenager in Chester County, Pennsylvania. It’s pretty edgelord-y and tampers with dork sided subjects so don’t watch it with Mama-San in the room.

Any films or filmmakers that inspired this film?

David Lynch’s Lost Highway and Shinya Tsukamoto’s Tetsuo The Iron Man. Also The Blair Witch Project and Lake Mungo.

What is the goal of the film for you?

I’m all about mood and aesthetics. I’m going for a certain vibe. If I can trap you in that vibe, that particular state of mind, I consider that a success.

What has the journey been like getting the film into production?

It wasn’t too bad actually. We shot the film in 3 or 4 different days. Took about a few weeks of planning.

One thing you learned from this project?

Given a team and a bigger budget, I think I could make something grand. This film was written, directed and edited by myself. I literally did everything.

How can folks find you and your film online?

We are on Instagram and youtube.

Any last pieces of advice for fellow filmmakers?

Just do it. I literally taught myself to shoot and edit. You may fail, but you’ll improve with every project and I believe if you work hard and be persistent, you’ll eventually make a solid film.
