Mystery of a Psycho Review
Mystery of a Psycho is a 2021 Hindi horror thriller Directed by Gaurav Pundeer, starring Hasan Peerzada and Yuvraj Bawa.
From the onset the first thing you’ll notice about Mystery of a Psycho is the great production value that not only leads off the film but stays consistent throughout. It is really great and I commend Pundeer and his team for pushing themselves to present a polished short film.
Mystery of a Psycho is as mentioned a Hindi horror thriller but one that is in the vein of a classic Hitchcock style slow burn Hollywood film. Mix that with a Bollywood coat of paint and you’ve got a great recipe for a solid production.
The cinematographer Ricky Smith does some incredible work with the mixing of color tones. From the strong blues seen throughout to the electric yellows painted in the differing spaces. The framing is well done and the editing only compliments the piece perfectly.
Above all else I have to get an extra dose of praise to the writing in the film. Nothing spoken or hinted at in the beginning is put out to the audience that doesn’t serve a purpose. It is a great way to showcase the characters and also perfectly lay out their motivations as the film marches forward. It is easy to want to rush to a conclusion or just get to an ending quickly but Pundeer lets the film breathe and that is only to its benefit.
With that being said even a good script can fail because of poor acting or delivery. I am happy to report that is not the case here Peerzada as the Doctor and Bawa as Raghu both shine. Peerzada especially gives an understated performance that only excels as the film twists into something completely unlike what you will be expecting.
I see great things ahead for Pundeer and his entire team. I can’t wait to see more of their work and would highly recommend you check out Mystery of a Psycho.
