Sewer Gators

Sewer Gators Film Spotlight

Today’s film spotlight focuses on the feature film Sewer Gators directed by Paul Dale.

What is the title of your film and what inspired said title?

The movie is called Sewer Gators, it’s inspired by my time living among the sewer gators a proud people whose bite is worse than their bark, but I’ve still got 8 fingers, so who’s complaining.

Tell us a little bit about the story and origins of your film.

The movie is essentially Jaws, but you replace the shark with alligators coming out of toilets and eating people by the a**. I like to think of it as my Citizen Kane or Apocalypse Now, simply put, it’s a masterpiece. My mother always told me I was a genius, now I can prove it to the world through my art.

Any films or filmmakers that inspired this film?

Roger Corman has always been a big inspiration. Making movies with nothing and no time, it’s an art in and of itself. Also, Lloyd Kauffman’s ‘Make Your Own Damn Movie’ was a huge help, I can’t recommend that book enough.

What is the goal of the film for you?

I just want to make people laugh. We’re all hurdling towards the abyss in this shallow nightmare we call life; so, if the booze and cheap love can’t take the edge off, maybe Sewer Gators can give you a moments respite from your hollow meaningless existence; before the sweet embrace of death takes you off to the unknown.

What has the journey been like getting the film into production?

I sold half my liver to get the budget for this picture together, but they told me that the torture I’d put it through over the years rendered it unusable and only wanted to pay me half-price, so that meant I couldn’t afford my live action alligators. So, adjustments were made, we re-wrote the third act, no more mutant alligator men…thanks a lot Bobby the organ buyer. Not only that, I had to take a loan out from Bobby’s brother Loan Shark Larry.

One thing you learned from this project?

I learned that if you take a loan from a loan-shark in order to make your film, you’d better turn a profit, or else you may lose the other half of your liver. So please spread the word on this film my life may depend on it.

How can folks find you and your film online?

The film will be available to stream for free June 3rd here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xahw04ZDgTM&t=0s

After that it’ll be available on our website, bythehorns.store

We’re on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and Twitter all under bythehornstv, they’re all a little barren right now, but we’re working on it and we’re going to be making more films in this vein, so you can keep up with us on there.

Any last pieces of advice for fellow filmmakers?

Give up. It’s not going to happen…if you’re still reading and that didn’t make you want to quit here’s my hackneyed piece of advice, but just do it. The cavalry is not coming. If you want to make your movie, go make your movie. The tools are cheaper than ever, there is no excuse anymore. Maybe you won’t be able to make your war epic, but you can make something. Maybe it’s a film, maybe it’s Maybelline.
