Tarantino! The Musical? Review
Tarantino! The Musical? is a 2019 comedy short film Written/Directed/Produced by Jean-Luc Julien.
I promise that I will hold all of my personal bias aside despite the fact that the director of this short Julien shares the same first name as my favorite director Jean-Luc Godard.
With that out of the way Tarantino! The Musical? is a short film I only wanted to see so much more from and that is a great thing! The film is fast, frenetic, and full of energy that even a passing Quentin Tarantino film watcher will thoroughly enjoy. The acting is great and the comedy is spot on. The highlight for me being the slow-motion Reservoir Dogs send up.
As I said from the start I only wanted more. Going from outside the restaurant to then taking Valerie to the hospital in the car while in labor would have been amazing to see. If you add to that the short actually turning into a musical, my goodness that would have been glorious. Or having the actors go to the audition to sit in front of a Tarantino lookalike who also bursts into song, again would have been great. If Evil Dead: The Musical exists in this world we live in I think Julien and team have something on their hands here. Plus, hey if you need someone to help with scripting give me all call.
All joking aside though if you have Amazon Prime (US or UK) check this one out. It is a fun short film with lots of energy and lots of great passion behind it too. I haven’t even mentioned the great, clean cinematography by Alex Depew, or the clean sound by Vilhjalmur S. Vilhjalmsson as well.
This is a well-produced, well executed, and meticulously thought-out short film that pays loving tribute to the great albeit not flawless director known as Quentin Tarantino. If you have some time to kill or just love his filmography you will not be disappointed by Tarantino! The Musical?
