Where Nobody Sees Review

Where Nobody Sees is a 2019 short psychological horror film from Writer/Director Pier Mazzi produced by MazziFilms.

From the very start Where Nobody Sees sets an excellent tone with an opening scene featuring a fortune teller as played by Misch Kate and our main character Dante Dixon as played by Jesse James Northam. The look of the film is great, the acting is solid, and the pacing is perfect. This opening really sets a strong tone for the film.

What I can say is strong about this piece is that after you finish it, it will make you think. I am personally not well informed with Tarot card readings at all so seeing one highlighted in the piece made me go out of my way to look it up. From what I found the card heavily featured in the short is strings hanging from the hands of divinity, meaning we should find our own way on the journey of life. Some very deep and well thought out layers at play.

That can be said of the piece as a whole. The cinematography by Lufe Siqueira is great, handling both warm and cool tones nicely throughout. The acting as mentioned is good across the board. Finally, both the audio mixing and soundtrack are well done here too.

The way in which the piece wraps up I think could be seen as a bit problematic considering the way in which mental illness is shown in film. However, after watching a few times the one thing to bear in mind is that this is based off of a true story so this very well could be what someone with a condition like this has been through. I don’t want to spoil the film so you will have to watch for yourself but I’d be interested in knowing some more backstory from Mazzi on this piece. Perhaps a future blog post to discuss the film is in order!

Serial

Overall though I enjoyed Where Nobody Sees. It makes you think, it provides a layered narrative, and it leaves you wanting to know more. These are all great qualities and I think you should sit down with the film to see for yourself. There is a lot of talent in front of and behind the camera. I’m looking forward to sitting down with more of the work from Mazzi and team as they create more films!
