Iris

Iris Review

Iris is a 2020 music video directed and animated by Raphael Bluzet.

“The hand is the mirror of the soul,” is quite the fitting and beautiful way to begin this powerful music video for the song Iris by Yovoh. With powerful animation that will elicit a full spectrum of emotions, this short delivers in many special ways.

It is so simple a concept to really just take a moment to look closer at the power our hands have. Whether it comes from a place of anger or of pure tenderness, the hand is a true mirror in every sense of the word.

In this music video, Bluzet guides us through so many moments that involve our hands, starting out with the first simple touch as a newborn. It shows us the powerful message of strength with a raised fist, or those important moments of a pinky promise, or even sharing a toast of beers amongst friends. All these things we might take for granted shown so beautifully.

The animation is reminiscent of Take on Me (1985) by A-ha or even the film Waking Life (2001), while still keeping its own unique sensibility. The animation is frenetic yet gorgeous, bringing a warm and inviting tone throughout.

The song by Yovoh compliments the visuals splendidly and it is a genuine marriage of art and sound, culminating in something that is catchy, leaving you wanting to play the video again without hesitation.

Serial

Bluzet has crafted an amazing piece with stand out animation that provides the perfect piece that will truly leave you reflecting at all the special moments that your hands are a part of. Great art makes you think of things in different ways, and this video exemplifies that perfectly.
