Deadly C Review

Deadly C is a 2020 short film written and directed by Ashish Bisht.

An interesting embodiment of COVID-19 that pushes past some large technical hurdles, Deadly—C is a short film that will grow dated as we move into a post pandemic world but is a curious snapshot of a world in crisis.

This is a short film that had a lot to overcome as being filmed from a mobile phone proved a shaky start to the piece. The grainy cell phone footage and jarring editing are prevalent throughout, but there is something about what the living vessel of coronavirus has to say that will keep your attention.

Ashish Bisht was not only the director but also the star of the short, and he has a convincing performance here, leading a unique and demonic take on the mindset of a deadly virus. It is a touch over the top at times, but provides a lot of context on how things have gone over this tumultuous last year of existence.

As mentioned, one of the biggest shortcomings of the piece is the editing, which to his credit Bisht attempts to mask by keeping the shots almost entirely uniform from edit to edit. However, without differing angles to cutaway to, the jump cuts that occur are a little too jarring not to mention.

On other technical aspects there really isn’t much to mention as the normal room lighting was used to light the scene and there wasn’t any outside music to speak of during the short. Nothing was offensive, most surprisingly in the audio which was serviceable all things considered.

Serial

This is a short film that may not stand the test of time as most will probably want to forget about the nightmare that 2020 was, but it is a pure, honest look at what this virus meant on a world stage. There is a lot of thought that clearly went into the dialogue especially and what we have at the core of it all is if nothing else an interesting curiosity.
