May marks the first month that I only sat down to feature films for review. Ok well except for one movie haha. It was both good and bad that things have taken off as well as they have, but with that and my work obligations, any spare time was spent watching movies when I could. Most the films I am going to list have extended reviews here on the blog or through the writing I do for other outlets so I won’t eat up too much time on this post for each.

What I Watched in March

Percy vs. Goliath

Probably the best film I sat down to this month. The story doesn’t really try to reinvent the tried and true but this is a fun “based on a true story,” movie. You can read my full review over at Mother of Movies here, but a good wholesome watch which you may learn a thing or two from about the modern farming industry.

The Father

An amazing film that truly encapsulates what it must be like experiencing dementia. This is a movie that throws you right into that world and never lets up. To say much more would be to ruin what is simply put something you really just have to see for yourself.

The Call

An engaging and time bending horror film that is smartly written. This is an easy one to recommend on Netflix right now. Another one for Mother of Movies you can check out here, but again easy recommendation especially for those looking for a horror thrill this summer season.

Winifred Meeks

Hands down just a boring and bad movie. This film is out to do nothing but waste your time and test your patience. What should have been a 20 minute short film at most is stretched to an hour and a half all for the worse. Read the full review here, but avoid at all costs.

Death Sentences

Another film that will test your patience and it is just filmed really poorly. Sure there is a place for films that elect to film with lesser quality equipment but this is next level bad. Read the full review here but again something not worth your time.

The Box

This is an interesting one. There is too much time spent in the “box,” as it were which slows down the pacing. However, when the film is at its introspective peak it really does shine. A good one for those more philosophically minded. Again full thoughts here.

Lake Artifact

A multiverse horror movie that sounds cooler on paper than what we get in execution. There is a nice amount of buildup but it all falls under the pressure of its own weight by the third act. A decent film that needed to lean into one genre/direction than it ultimately decided to. Full review here.

The Connection

An incredibly hum drum film about two people who have powers after stumbling across an alien ship crash landed at night. It is a boring version of Chronicle without any real character development to speak of. It is another victim of a less than satisfying conclusion as well. Full review here.

Capture Kill Release

A film that will keep you entertained for most of the runtime. You will find the female lead either over enthusiastically charming or grating depending on who you are. Your mileage will vary and the gore while satisfying when it comes takes a bit too long to get to. Another full review to check out here.

And that is my list from May 2021. What films did you watch? I’m hoping that in June I will be able to do a lot more leisurely watching. Let me know any recommendations in the comments down below and check out the blog where we post new reviews every day but Sunday.

Don’t forget to subscribe to the blog from the homepage and I’ll see you all next month for another recap!

Cheers!
