Liv Review

Liv is a 2021 short film written and directed by Paige McMorrow.

Playing like a short fusion of Casper and Beetlejuice, Liv delivers a cute story that is over all too quickly, which is nothing but a compliment to a well round piece.

While the animation in the film is not the most perfectly smooth this short-animated film pushes past any mild shortcomings to make something uniquely enjoyable.

From great character designs to solid voice acting, the presentation of the short really stands tall. Having a run time of only 2 minutes makes it an easy film to recommend as a passing YouTube watch, but there is obviously a lot more that could be told through this story set up.

Even without continuing adventures though, the piece stands just a well on its own too. There is never anything wrong with giving us a taste of something pleasant and then wrapping it up with a nice bow.

The music by Jonathan Alexander is a great technical note to mention as it carries the cute Halloween style spirit perfectly. Encapsulating something that is spooky but fun all the same.

The voice talent too from Sheli Baez, Dottie Carter, Ghast Lydipper were also right on target. The recording of the vocals deserves a nod too as the mixing was easily equal to that of something you would see on any animated TV network.

Our lead ghost character is probably the one who carries the strongest visual design overall but the art style is really well done on everyone shown, giving an almost Genndy Tartakovsky vibe.

Serial

For audiences young and small Liv is a cute romp that is sure to leave a nice smile on everyone’s face by the end. For the horror afficionados out there, there are plenty of little Easter eggs to make you a happy camper as well. Also make no mistake in the joke of having a story about a ghost, but calling it Liv is not lost here, and is much appreciated in fact.
