Scavenger Review

Scavenger is a 2021 short film written by Joey Clarke, Jr and directed by Jeffrey Morreale.

A short but action heavy romp through artifact hunting in the future, Scavenger strikes a nice balance between humor, world building, and thrills.

Shot entirely on an iPhone and drone, this is a film that far exceeds the humble gear utilized. This is a short that never takes itself too seriously and almost brings to mind touches of Indiana Jones or even the late 90s Mummy films.

While at only 3 minutes in length, there is still plenty of world building that has been done to transport us to the setting we are in. The only complaint here is that in some ways it may actually be a bit too fast from the start. It is nice to have the pace kick up quickly but in the same respect we are thrown a lot in a very quick exposition dump.

Outside of this, though, there is enough action and movement to keep you invested throughout the runtime. The sassy robot/AI companion is a bit of well-worn archetype to this point but it is still fun to see here.

If nothing else you will at least be entertained in this quick and wild ride.

Serial

Scavenger sets the pace to 11 and never looks back. This is again good and bad but at the very least we can have a lot of fun.
