The Wonderland Diner Review

The Wonderland Diner is a 2021 short film directed by Jake Kopronica.

B movie slasher goodness awaits all those who enter The Wonderland Diner.

Complete with just about every element one could ask for in something schlocky but fun, this short film hits all the right notes in a quick yet concise package.

There is something to be said about the simple act of overdubbing a film when it comes to B movies that just strikes a certain auditory cord. It is so synonymous with these films that the fact that it is included here is wonderful.

To compliment this, the acting on display is wonderfully over the top from the very beginning. There is no question as to what the intentions are as you watch, and that makes for an entertaining and enjoyable viewing experience.

The soundtrack to the piece is amazingly 80s, with all the synth sounds one could hope for. Scott Houchens really delivers in a satirical style, that also understands the twisted roots that layer the final act of the short.

The cinematography by Chriss Ott is slowly drenched in blues and reds but when it needs to be more subtly 80s, again it works out well.

As the tagline states, this is a wonderland of horror and that is very true all around here. The 80s send ups are great and the tongue is firmly in cheek with this one.

Serial

The Wonderland Diner has a great pace, sense of style, and sense of humor. For horror fans of decades past this is an easy recommendation. The entire team at Simpatico Pictures has really set a solid bar for themselves with this one.
