Sexy Furby Review
Sexy Furby is a 2021 short film written and directed by Adam Wilder and Nicole Daddona.
Like an abridged episode of The Twilight Zone with a caked-on layer of Southern charm, Sexy Furby pulls you into its unique world and never lets go.
The silly somber tone to start the short is almost something that you might see in a Jared Hess film, you can’t help but understand the melancholy but it is so over the top you have to laugh at the same time. It is pure joy and the over-saturated color palette cues you in to never feel any kind of true sadness throughout.
The narration from Nicole Daddona is spot on providing a warm embrace that, while monotone in execution, still hits all the right notes.
There is style in spades here and each scene and character keeps the interesting sensibilities at a steady pace. The eponymous man furby makes sure that in any scene he is featured in you are not going to have a straight face.
The pro mist dream like charm from the film paints each moment with a technicolor vibrance that is rich as it is ridiculous.
At the very end of the piece, The Twilight Zone style turn that things take is unsettling but by no means comes out of left field. In a true testament to the filmmakers, we have been lulled in a way to expect anything that this is nothing unwarranted at all.
The only bit that might need a touch of tweaking is some of the transition points of the film feel a little hard even with the utilization of quick dissolves. It doesn’t flow as good as it potentially could, but this is just a minor complaint.
Overall, Sexy Furby is a treat of a film to sit down to and one that you are sure not to forget. A pure piece of weird pop joy that has plenty of charm from start to finish.
This film was screened as part of the 2021 Fantasia Film Festival.
