Forever 27 Review

Forever 27 is a 2021 short film directed by Nicole Pott and written by Sydonie Calvert.

A potent mix of modern musical styling and visual flair, Forever 27 brings about a strong proof of concept for a story rife for expansion.

There is a lot of life that shines through the short film that instantly pulls you into the world at large. With a commanding performance from Natalie Dunne, who steals the show, we have no reason to want to walk away from the film.

Director Nicole Pott leads a strong roster of talented filmmakers who know how to work within the visual medium with ease. There is a lot of great framing, and the cinematography from Fraser Oxlee does not disappoint, especially in the color drenched set-pieces of the nightclub.

There is nothing far-fetched or out of place with anyone or anything in the story and the cliffhanger ending leaves at just the right point to leave you wanting more.

As far as a proof of concept goes, this is exactly what you want. Enough to showcase the skills of the creatives involved and a tease of what more is to come. It is the perfect blend of everything all at once for what will hopefully become a full feature film or even a series, perhaps.

If there is one note that could be mentioned in passing, it would be that the film could be just a touch shorter in final length. At 16 minutes nothing over stays its welcome too badly but keeping in mind those who might want to invest in the project the faster you can get them on their way the better and even 16 minutes is a good chunk to sit down to.

Outside of that though, this is a well thought out and well executed short film that stands very tall on its own. There is a solid round of applause that can go out to all the creatives who worked to bring this vision to life.
