Better Know An Author – Louis Rivera

Our weekly spotlight series on authors from around the world. This week we sat down with Louis Rivera!

Please give a brief introduction, including your name and where you are based

Hi, my name is Louis Rivera and I’m a Graphic Designer that sometimes writes stories/poems. I live in Toronto, Canada.

What book or books have you published or are working on at the moment?

I have published a SF short story called Man of the Mountain here: https://www.amazon.ca/Mutation-One-Shot-Anthology-Speculative-Fiction/dp/B096LPW82K

I have a manuscript of a Fantasy novel: Kingmaker that I am revising. I have several manuscripts lying around in the bowels of my computer hard-drive actually, from different sub-genres of Fantasy/SF and YA fiction.

What drives you to write?

Fame and money *insert wry grin*. That’s the supposed reward at the end of the tunnel. What makes me continue though is that writing is therapeutic for me. It allows me to vent out my identity without a filter, just through the unbiased lens of story/poetry.

Where can folks find you online and on social media?

My Instagram is louisrivera__ where I regularly post my poetry. https://www.instagram.com/louisrivera__/

What is one piece of advice you would give to another author out there who might be struggling?

If you have the passion and the reason, you will outlive a season. I think there’s millions of people who start a story, but there’s a fraction of them that finish one. If you’re going to start a creative work, have an ending in mind.

What are some of your five-year goals with writing?

Traditionally publish my novel(s) or self-publish if needed. I just want my work out there, though I have to finish them first!

Final Thoughts?

Don’t believe in the critics or successful writers on how to write. The simple truth is being too stubborn to give up on your journey as a creative writer. Surround yourself with people that support your work. Be kind to yourself, you don’t have to write every day but you can and should never stop dreaming…
