The Institute Film Spotlight
Today’s film spotlight focuses on the feature film The Institute directed by Hamza Zaman.
What is the title of your film and what inspired said title?
“The Institute” title was inspired by the story itself. As the couple had to join a clinic or medical facility I meditated upon a good name for this. The Institute just seemed appropriate – professional but ominous.
Tell us a little bit about the story and origins of your film.
The idea itself came about from me facing the start of my own family. So many people have issues with this and that is something of a taboo that isn’t talked about much. When considering the problems I could have it brought up some truly primal fears. I tapped into them for this story.
Any films or filmmakers that inspired this film?
I love film so there are a million inspirations but my favorite directors are Kubrick, Aronofsky and Villeneuve.
What is the goal of the film for you?
To transport people outside of their life and problems for a couple of hours. To entertain them and give them a fun and pleasurable experience.
What has the journey been like getting the film into production?
Long. LOL. A thousand days of my life were taken up by making this film. From the story to script to production and then our year and a half in post – it has taken quite a lot of time.
One thing you learned from this project?
I learned many things…. making a feature will teach you not only about filmmaking but about yourself and those around you. The technical aspects are things one can study and prepare for but the personal lessons that come from dealing with egos and peoples needs you need to experience to understand. One thing that really was wonderful was the bond me and my producing partner (and wife) strengthened over the film. I think it is important to have those around you who support your work and appreciate your efforts.
How can folks find you and your film online?
It is available on Amazon, Google Play, Apple TV and many other locations. Also on your local cable and satellite providers. Please also check InstituteMovie.com and follow us on Facebook, IG and Twitter to keep up with news:

Any last pieces of advice for fellow filmmakers?
If you want to have a comfortable life don’t make movies. If you have a passion for this and really won’t be fulfilled unless you do it – then just keep working on it. One day you will get things made.
