Decades Apart

Decades Apart Film Spotlight

Today’s film spotlight focuses on the short film Decades Apart directed by Andrew Di Pardo.

What is the title of your film and what inspired said title?

The film is called “Decades Apart: The Noir Cut.” The idea stemmed from the films plot which sees a call from 1953 get lost in time and travel to the 21st century, “Decades Apart.”

Tell us a little bit about the story and origins of your film.

“Two people discover that one temporal anomaly and a flourishing connection can traverse any obstacle.. Even the laws of space time.” That’s the logline for the film which came to be when I was working on a photoshoot that was about each decade from the 1950s to the 1990s. During the shoot I was thinking about how much times have changed and how the simple things like the telephone are overlooked and not given a second thought when once upon a time it was a tremendous groundbreaking invention. It also occurred to me how much perspectives have changed from the 1950s to now.  With those thoughts in mind, I decided to go ahead and write a film based on these concepts as I thought they were worth exploring on a deeper level. After writing a few drafts of this film, I decided to bring onboard my frequent collaborator named Gilbert Laberge to help flesh out the script and story even further. He was a such a larger contribution to what would eventually be titled “Decades Apart.”

Any films or filmmakers that inspired this film?

Not one film or filmmaker truly inspired the project, my inspirations for the project were more photography based from a style point.  The story was inspired on the history of us as a civilization from the 20th century to the 21st century and their differences between the two.

What is the goal of the film for you?

The goal for me was to make a timeless classic film which would be different from what I’ve done before.  Prior to “Decades Apart” I made several different action films or crime/mafia based films like “The Challenger -Film Series,” “Deep Trouble” & “Under the Gun.”  I truly wanted to make something unique that hasn’t been done before. I think myself, Gilbert and our team accomplished that.

What has the journey been like getting the film into production?

The journey was long, stressful and most importantly was fun! I worked with a company which at the time was called “Falls Park Entertainment,” who were a big help throughout pre-production and post-production as they helped me land our outstanding cast and get the original cut edited and released on Amazon. Getting the film into production took a good 7-8 months but that was time well spent and I couldn’t be happier with the end result.

One thing you learned from this project?

I learned the power of being patient with a project. Too many times in the past with my former business partner I felt as though we rushed to production before the film was ready. With “Decades Apart” Gilbert and I spent a good year going through draft after draft until we felt it was ready for the start of pre-production and then 7-8 months later, principle photography.

How can folks find you and your film online?

“Decades Apart: The Noir Cut” can be found on Amazon Prime and recently on Youtube.

Any last pieces of advice for fellow filmmakers?

The advice I would give to any filmmakers would be to produce your own content to showcase your ideas and talent. It’s the best way to get yourself out there and seen, whether it’s a short film or a feature. It’s a good starting point.
