Better Know An Author – Adam Mient

Our weekly spotlight series on authors from around the world. This week we sat down with Adam Mient!

Please give a brief introduction, including your name and where you are based

Hello, my name is Adam Mient. I’m originally from Chicago but currently reside in Burnsville Minnesota.

What book or books have you published or are working on at the moment?

My first published book is, “How to Be a Better You.” This book I wrote for my then twenty year old son as a guide to life. It’s a compilation of practical ideas on how to live a full and balanced existence. My current and future work lands in a different genre. “Future Odyssey- The Cosmic Cowboy,” is a Sci-fi/ Fantasy novel which I recently completed. I’m currently in the process of landing a literary agent. This book is not yet published.

What drives you to write?

Writing for me is the ultimate escape. In a world that seems to never rest, sometimes one needs to find healthy ways to decompress and find peace. My entire life I’ve been compiling big stories and ideas in my mind. Writing allows me a way to bring them into existence for the world to experience.

Where can folks find you online and on social media?

I’m on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter under Adam Mient. Give me and my new book page a follow!

What is one piece of advice you would give to another author out there who might be struggling?

The best books ever written all started out with a single thought and single sentence. Use a writing platform that you can access from your phone at anytime. Inspiration strikes when you least expect it. Add to your story a little bit every day even if it’s a paragraph or less. If you get stuck on a scene or particular part then skip it. Write the parts that you know for sure work and you are most excited to tell, even if they happen way later in the story. This keeps you writing. Putting all the pieces together comes later. Most often, after you write the stuff you know is great, this inspires you to go back and tackle those tough parts with a new perspective.

What are some of your five-year goals with writing?

My goal within five years is to be able to write for a living. My love is Sci-fi and Fantasy. I have a string of books to write and hope to become a staple within the genre.

Final Thoughts?

Do what you love, no matter what that looks like to others. It’s your life. Never give up on yourself or your dream. The end goal is important, but what happens in between is what makes up the majority of your journey. Every single day you wake up is another chance to start over. If your past bothers you then stop living there. Only look in one direction. Be well.
