Athame

Athame Review

Athame is a 2021 short film written and directed by Dimitrios Karas.

An interesting short psychological thriller, Athame treads into some unique territory to make for an enjoyable, albeit not fulfilled, viewing experience.

There is something that is missing under the surface of this short film that never quite hits the mark. It is hard to say what that is exactly, but there is not anything here that will take away from the solid experience on display either.

Beyond that confusing opening paragraph, we have a short film that keeps you questioning enough to keep watching more, but the payoff for that time doesn’t exactly come to an earned conclusion.

The visuals are solid though, with some great cinematography in places, although a small lack of practical motivation in a few spots makes it a little imbalanced. The acting works well despite a few spots where things feel just a touch stiff.

In the end, we have a well-made short film with a lot of heart put into it. While it doesn’t quite reach any major highs, there is still something to be enjoyed from it overall.

Serial

Athame is worth the time to take a look at. It is a well-rounded psychological experience that may leave some with their heads properly scratched. It won’t be for everyone, but it is an enjoyable experience while we go through it.
