Better Know An Author – Rachel Grayson

Our weekly spotlight series on authors from around the world. This week we sat down with Rachel Grayson!

Please give a brief introduction, including your name and where you are based

My name is Rachel Grayson and I am currently based out of Miami, Florida. I am a teacher and writer. I was born in Los Angeles, California and raised in Delaware. I am a proud auntie of 3 little guys!

What book or books have you published or are working on at the moment?

I am brand new to this world! I haven’t published any books yet, however, I have a couple of books that I am working on including an alphabet book titled “Isaac’s Alphabet Kingdom” /This book was made for my 4 year old nephew since he learned his alphabet at 2 years old. I am also working on “A Survival Guide For The First Year Teacher.” Currently, I am writing daily blog posts about life experiences.

What drives you to write?

After watching the 90s teen movie Clueless, I fell in love with writing and storytelling. I printed out the script and rewrote a spinoff to the movie in the form of short tv shows. I would act out the scenes with my twin sister and we would record the episodes at our house. I fell in love with the script and telling a story so I wrote several scripts when I was a teenager.

Life drives me to write. I feel like even though we have different experiences, we should share them because we are more alike than different. I love learning new stories.

What is one piece of advice you would give to another author out there who might be struggling?

WRITE WHAT YOU KNOW! I enjoy writing because I am writing about something that I am familiar with. That’s how you gain a authentic audience. People can tell whether you are passionate about something right away; especially though writing. When you write about what you know it gives you confidence and motivates you to write more. It’s almost like I’m having a conversation with someone and teaching them my ways. Whatever you do, don’t give up and keep writing.

What are some of your five-year goals with writing?

I’m going to create a screenplay for a movie that represents my culture. I would like to get to a place where I am ready to pitch my writing to popular networks that will support my stories and allow me to be creative and fearless.

Final Thoughts?

Have fun! Writing is a competitive business, but when you do it for fun, you will attract the right people, at the right time and in the right place. God Bless!
