Filmmaker of the Week Rose Kreider

Filmmaker of the Week – Rose Kreider

Episode 46 of Filmmaker of the Week featuring Rose Kreider!

Give us a brief introduction of yourself, where you’re from originally and where you are now if different

I am a model and actor of 2 years here in the PNW who just as of last fall, switched interest to a film director and screenwriter. I opened my own production company, Rose Kreider Productions, and have been creating opportunities for local talents by writing my own films and working with other screenwriters to implement shorts and features originating in WA state!

What is it that first got you into the world of filmmaking?

I was invited to be the lead actor in a short in the summer of 2021 by a local filmmaker, and once the film premiered in October 2021, I had a dream about my film The Woman, woke up, wrote it all down, and realized I might have what it takes to direct a one-of-a-kind feature film that no one has seen in the PNW. From the steam of the dream to mid-February 2022, I had written the screenplay, approached cast and crew, produced, directed and wrote my first feature, and by March, we had a world premier in theaters in which 100 people came to support. I have my film playing on a Network, Roku tv, Fire tv and it is also available for purchase on YouTube.

Share a little bit about your specialty in the film world

I don’t believe I have any specialty in regards to the genre of films; however, I am one of the few female filmmakers in our state and I am proud of it. I am open to both collaborative screenplays with writers and producers, as well as opportunities to direct shorts or feature films.

What has been your most challenging project to date?

Since I am pretty fresh to the filmmaking industry and have only done two directing projects so far, The Woman has been the most challenging only because it is a feature that is 1 hour and 7 seconds vs a short I recently directed that is less than 10 mins and will be released in June.

Tell us a bit about your latest project.

Speaking of the above, my next project, which was filmed on May 14th, is called A Room By The Road, a short based out of WA state, written by Josef Wilke, a local to the Seattle area also who writes shorts. He approached me and asked for his short to be turned into a film. I love these types of opportunities, and this is what Rose Kreider Productions wants to happen! This film is a suspense/thriller that is about a robbery gone wrong and the negative implications that comes with it. Comes out in June, with an official release soon, so follow me on Insta @rosekreider and friend request me on facebook.com/rosekreider to keep up to date on this project, as well as future projects and castings!

What is one moment you’ve had in any part of the filmmaking process where you learned a really valuable lesson?

One moment when I realized I was overworking myself and needed to ask for support. I learned to lean more or the DP or PA in a lot of cases to help alleviate workload. It’s useful to the director to have as much assistance on-set as possible and to delegate work appropriately so that set is less chaotic and more streamlined.

What are some of the 5-year goals for you as a filmmaker/creative?

An easy 5-year goal for me is to continue making a name and positive reputation for myself in this PNW film industry, as well as branching out to other states and hopefully eventually getting the opportunity to work with known Hollywood actors in the neat future. Until then, I will continue branding myself, my production company, and let my work speak for itself.

If you could work with one idol of yours, who would it be?

Easy. Dan Levy. I admire his creative mind and would love the opportunity to collaborate with him on a project. I feel like we’d get along harmonically.

Name three films that have inspired you most in your journey.

They’re not all films, but what has inspired me the most are: Schitts Creek, Halloween and Elf. I know, random. I have reasons. All three stemmed from an idea with little to no budget and they made it happen. All three have become recognized and staples worldwide. How much more inspiring can you get?!
