The Dump

The Dump Film Spotlight

Today’s film spotlight focuses on the short film The Dump directed by Neil Holland.

What is the title of your film and what inspired said title?

The title of my film is “The Dump”, which those who watch the film will discover is a double entendre.

Tell us a little bit about the story and origins of your film.

“The Dump” is about a woman who goes to unusual lengths to save her relationship. As the American humorist Erma Bombeck once said, “There is a thin line that separates laughter and pain, comedy and tragedy, humor and hurt.” I wrote and directed “The Dump” while recovering from a very bad breakup. Part of getting over that bad breakup was to find the thin line in this story of a relationship coming to a sad end for a funny reason.

Any films or filmmakers that inspired this film?

I was inspired by “Seinfeld” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” in how they often deal with the idea of how neurosis and insecurity can lead to absurd circumstances.

What is the goal of the film for you?

“The Dump” is finishing up its festival run where it screened at the 2020 Austin Film Festival, and won Best Comedy Short at the 2020 Queens World Film Festival, Best Rom- Com at the 2022 Austin Revolution Film Festival, Best Cringe Comedy at the 2022 Hollywood Comedy Shorts Film Festival and the Audience Choice Award at the HollyShorts Monthly Screenings (to go along with numerous nominations). So at this point, the goal is to share it with the world.

What has the journey been like getting the film into production?

“The Dump” was actually fairly easy to get into production due to the fact that it was a rather straightforward and simple shoot.

One thing you learned from this project?

Don’t film next to a Baptist Church on a Saturday!

How can folks find you and your film online?
