Better Know An Author – Clara Novo

Our weekly spotlight series on authors from around the world. This week we sat down with Clara Novo!

Please give a brief introduction, including your name and where you are based

My name is Clara Novo. I’m an English teacher and an author from Portugal.

What book or books have you published or are working on at the moment?

In 2020, a few days before the pandemic, I published my very first fantasy novel “A Descendente: o Despertar” (“The Descendent: the Awakening” in English), which was just translated into English and published on Amazon. It’s the first book of what will be a trilogy and I’m currently finishing the second book.

What drives you to write?

Writing is a form of expression and a form of healing, really. I have always loved telling stories and I’ve loved writing for as long as I can remember. I always say this, but it’s the purest of truths: it was my favorite thing in school. Even in exams, I was really excited to get to the writing part – I loved it! I’ve learned that we can deconstruct so much about ourselves and about life through writing and, of course, reading. I can name a few stories that touched me; that helped me and even changed me. And my only goal is to be able to touch and inspire someone, even if just one person, through my writing and my stories. If that’s the only thing I can accomplish as a writer, then I will be happy and fulfilled.

Where can folks find you online and on social media?

On social media you can find me at https://www.instagram.com/authorclaranovo/ and on https://www.facebook.com/authorclaranovo/.

What is one piece of advice you would give to another author out there who might be struggling?

Write what you love and what you would like to read (not what you think other people would like) and, more importantly, do it with and out of love, without fear. Find your voice and share it with the world because we all have stories to tell that will touch or inspire someone, somewhere.

What are some of your five-year goals with writing?

Finishing my book trilogy. Translate it all into English and share it with the whole world. Probably write a romance or a thriller too. We writers have drawers full of ideas, right?

Final Thoughts?

Thank you so much for this opportunity, Daniel. It was a pleasure! 😊
