What I Watched in November

So November was a solid month of film watching here. After nothing in September and then going pretty hard in October, I got into a nice balance this month of film watching. Without any further delay though, let’s take a look at all what I watched in November.

What I Watched in August

Dune

A movie that somehow felt bloated but not long enough at the same time. The pacing wasn’t perfect on this one, but the set pieces used in the film were all pretty gorgeous. It also isn’t afraid to show some sheer brutality in places. Of course, this is just a single part of the Dune story, if you’re a fan of sci-fi though you simply can’t go wrong watching this film.

Spencer

What else could you ask for from Kristen Stewart at this point? She gives an amazing performance as Princess Diana in this film that smartly sets the tone that you are not in for a biopic right from the opening scenes. What you do get is this slice of life fable exploring Diana’s mentality during a particular Christmas holiday in 1991. It is dreamy and gets a bit muddled in the middle with some repetitive bits, but otherwise a solid one all around.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife

The Ghostbusters movie that all the fans seem to hope for has arrived. I did not see the attempted all female reboot from a few years ago but I never had any issues with it either. That being said this film delivers on all the fan service one could hope for and manages to introduce a new generation into the Ghostbusters universe. Timing on release wise I think it would have been a better summer or even right before Halloween film but that aside you have a good time for the whole family here.

Repossession

A movie that doesn’t quite commit to either a horror mold or a dramatic one. Tettering the line between both, it manages not satisfy fans of either in an effective way. Reflecting back on this one since my initial review, I think it really comes down to a main character who is instantly unrelatable and unlikeable. He is rich, arrogant, and his inability to deal with obstacles is what lead to his downfall.

Entombed

While nothing groundbreaking or original here, Entombed manages to push back through the whole post apocalyptic setting by essentially creating a bottle movie with a few characters in one space. The acting from the three leads really helps as well. Some may find it a bit tedious at times, which is warranted, but there is still some good bits to enjoy. Read the full review here.

It Came from Below

This one was just not for me, to be honest. Another problem with a main character that didn’t feel easy to connect with and then side characters who were just obnoxious in parts. The creature was pretty cool, but as with any good creature film, the screen time is limited. One to watch late at night or with some friends when you just want some simple to follow horror film fun. Double Walker

Not sure if this one made the list for last month or not but either way I’m adding it back here. I really wanted to like this one but too many plot holes and story conveniences held this one back. It wanted to be a contemplative film but didn’t push hard enough in that category either. Check out that full review here.
